Dr. Bob Begins Runs for Second Council Term

Dr. Bob Cundiff, Clearwater City Council member, signed the forms today to run for a second term as Council Member, Seat 3. His Campaign Treasurer, Carl Schrader oversees the signing.

Receiving the filing forms is Rosemary Call, Clearwater City Clerk. The next day Dr. Bob received 350 petition cards to be signed by registered Clearwater voters. Two hundred fifty cards are required; the assumption is that a number of cards will be filled out incorrectly.

Doing the Most Good

One of my most favorite events of the year is sponsored by The Salvation Army. It’s great to be in a large company of big-hearted folks at the annual Doing the Most Good Luncheon.

This year’s “Others” Award was given to Alfred Andrews.

Dr. Bob Tours Clearwater Free Clinic

The Clearwater Free Clinic is, as it name says, free. Those who cannot afford insurance will come to this beautiful facility, and get medical care. They have nine examining rooms. One of the most astounding facts about the Clearwater Free Clinic is that they have more than 200 individuals who donate their time and talent to help others. The epitome of volunteerism. God bless you, Clearwater Free Clinic

Roy “Doc” Halladay Honored in Clearwater

At Jack Russell Stadium today, the City of Clearwater honored a new Hall of Fame inductee, the late Pitcher Roy Halladay. Roy’s wife and Mayor George Cretekos helped to cut the ribbon and unveil the monument.

Nova Southeastern University Opens Campus in Clearwater

Where the campus of Clearwater Christian College stood for 49 years, graduating more than 3000 students in it history, a new campus arose this past two years, and today was the ribbon-cutting for Nova Southeastern University, a beautiful new regional campus in the Tampa Bay area. Two of the school’s local benefactors, Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel, were honored for their generosity.

This photo includes a number of local officials, including Mayor George Cretekos, Vice Mayor Dr. Bob Cundiff, Clearwater City Manager William Horne, Kevin Dunbar, Karen Seel, Jane Castor, Joe Ayoub, and Nancy Besore. Nova Southeastern’s president, George Hanbury II is also central in the photo, as he was in the program which preceeded.

Nova Southeastern has five colleges and several schools on this campus. Largely but not exclusively a medical training university, it brings 1000 jobs to Clearwater. Having moved from its Tampa campus, many faculty and staff will relocate to Clearwater. Thousands of students will be attending this school, which has already opened with classes during the summer.

Great Meeting with Community Leaders

As a Clearwater City Council member, I represent all of Clearwater. It was a pleasure today to meet at Tijuana Flats with a great group which included Eliseo Santana Jr, Asia and Lawrence Clermont, Van Farber and Erika Escamilla. We’re working together with the City Manager and staff to improve communication and solve some community issues. I am amazed and humbled each day, realizing how many folks are working together to make Clearwater greater.

Community Clean-up Brings Volunteers Together in North Greenwood Neighborhood

Mayor George Cretekos and host of other volunteers did some great work today and, according to Howard McLymont, “they cut down trees for elderly, cut lawns and cleaned up roads.”

I was not able to stay and help, but the Mayor, Pastor James Williams, Pastor Carlton Childs, Bruce Rector and Steve Cleveland were among the hard workers today. The Mt. Olive Community Development Corporation organized the event.

Mayor Cretekos wrote that volunteers from throughout the county came to help.

Workers were cautioned to keep hydrated, and water, sunscreen and other necessities were provided.

The Boy Scouts helped, as did Keep Pinellas Beautiful.

It was amazing to see what people working together, volunteering to help their community, can accomplish. God bless you all.
