Clearwater Intercoastal Sunset

Sunset

For most of the afternoon and evening, it was a bit drizzly here in Clearwater. But just before sunset, the clouds parted, revealing a beautiful view of the sun setting. Along Edgewater Drive in Northwest Clearwater, Florida. Edgewater Neighborhood Association is having a fun block party right now!

Police Athletic League Drummers

The guys performed in North Greenwood earlier tonight, despite the drizzle. They were superb, at the Community Family Fun Night, sponsored by the City of Clearwater.

Clearwater’s Parks and Recreation Department sponsored this morning’s Make a Difference Day 2017 event at the Community Health Centers of Pinellas, at the corner of Druid and Myrtle.

Among the other participants were a number of great organizations, including the InterCultural Advocacy Institute, The Salvation Army, Empath, and RCS Food Bank.

At least 200 boxes of groceries were distributed. Eye exams and dental screenings were also available. A number of information booths were set up.

Clearwater’s Diversity Luncheon: A Taste of Ethnicity

Clearwater employees enjoyed a meal together at the Public Utilities Complex, with outside tents representing each of the world’s continents. Before going into the meal, attendees tried to answer questions about those continents at each of the tents.

City employees lined up steadily for two hours to enjoy a lunch with a menu that represented food from around the world. I enjoyed some time meeting old and new employees, while digging into some great food.

Tampa Bay Estuary Program

As part of my responsibilities on the Clearwater City Council, I met today with the Tampa Bay Estuary Board of Directors, of which I am a member, along with other counties and cities officials, marine scientists, and Fish and Wildlife personnel–a great group of people. The Tampa Bay Estuary Program is a great organization. Their web page is http://www.tbep.org, and according to their site,

The mission of the Tampa Bay Estuary Program is to build partnerships to restore and protect Tampa Bay through implementation of a scientifically sound, community-based management plan. The Tampa Bay Estuary Program was created by Congress in 1991 to assist the community in restoring and protecting Florida’s largest open-water estuary.

I hope you’ll visit their site, and see what you can do to help the organization fulfill its mission.
