Giving Thanks

Tampa Bay Veterans Memorial Plaza in Clearwater

In America we have so much for which to give thanks.

I started today as I usually do, most Thursdays, with a great group of friends, sharing thanksgivings, prayer requests, talking about our Christian experiences, our “walk with the Lord” as we often call it. I’m thankful for these men.

Clearwater’s Tampa Bay Veterans Memorial Plaza, quiet this Thanksgiving morning, where I have stopped to write. Here at Crest Lake Park, I am thankful for the freedom we enjoy, and the veterans who made it possible. I encourage you to purchase plaques for the veterans in your life, as I have, to fill the walls with names of those veterans we can thank for serving this great country.

For my wonderful wife, now gone six years; for family, friends and neighbors who walk life’s road along side for a time, I am thankful.

For the college students I have taught over many years, who sometimes, I think, taught me more than I taught them, I am thankful.

For my church, Lakeside Community Chapel friends I see each week; and for the faithful Bible teaching of Pastor Steve Kreloff, I am thankful.

For the Gideons International, the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity, which help give me focus on some of the important things in life, I am thankful.

I have not forgotten my work with my colleagues on the Clearwater City Council, with whom I labor daily for the good of Clearwater’s residents and businesses. I am truly thankful that, in my mind, God provided an opportunity for me to give back to Clearwater, my home for the past 23 years.

God bless you all this Thanksgiving Day.

Remember, the best attitude is gratitude!

Attitude of Gratitude

You cannot warm the hearts of people with God’s love if they have an empty stomach and cold feet.William Booth

Dr. Bob helps distribute turkeys.

At the Clearwater Salvation Army Social Services location, Thanksgiving food packages, including 10,500 turkeys are given to needy residents.

Cars, vans, foot traffic, trucks, scooters and this Harley came through the line this morning.

Thanks to the Salvation Army and all the volunteers for their clear demonstration of helping those in need. Happy Thanksgiving, all!
